The day after

It’s the day after Gilsa poured concrete for the new garage bay. Ernesto reports they worked till 2 a.m. finishing the concrete.

Which means it is now time to plan out the concrete pads that will comprise the walk from the front door to the street, from the front door around to the kitchen side door, and from the kitchen side door to the driveway. Ron Dahlke laid out strips of hickory bullnose in one configuration. With Steven, they walked the walk and designed a plan for Gilsa to form up next week.

Ron Dahlke laid out in one configuration strips of hickory bullnose that Luis cut away when building the stair treads. With Steven, they walked the walk and designed a plan for Gilsa to form up next week — adjusting the size of each pad to 21 inches wide instead of 24, and shrinking to six inches instead of eight the gap between each concrete pad. This better matches Steven’s gait, step after step, taking out awkward skips and stretches.
It's also time to scrape up off the driveway the hardbacked roadbase that was not used to form the foundation of the new garage bay. The roadbase is hardpacked. Ernesto needed to use a pickaxe to chip it loose for the shovel.
