Jacquela and Steven traveled to Ikea today, purchased several kitchen storage inserts, transported it all and ourselves back to Emerald Hill, and took the inserts for a test drive.
Above, Jacquela uses the LED on Steven’s cellphone to light the kitchen — because power is not yet connected, and it’s the early dark of a winter’s day. We confirm that two 15-inch wide utensil trays do in fact sit side by side comfortably in the 30.25-inch-wide storage draws for knives, forks, spoons and other utensils.
There are two top drawers at the end of the island that are both 21 inches wide, 3 inches tall. One 15-inch tray fits comfortably, as do four 5-inch trays.Same configuration fits comfortably in the neighboring drawer at the end of the island. There is one extra-wide but not very tall drawer that slides under the induction cooktop. It is 34.25 inches wide, 17 inches deep and will work with objects no more than 3 inches tall. That makes this drawer ideal for spice racks and trays, or spice racks and selected spatulas and other cooking utensils.
