First Texas Honda continues the forensic disassembly of the engine from Jacquela’s Civic, tracking the failures from the bolt that sheared into the timing chain that shattered.
After a week of talking by phone, text and email, Steven shook hands with Jay Jank at First Texas Honda.
Jay provides this update:
The valves in the upper half of the engine block are shot and both the upper and lower blocks will need replacement.
He continues to compile the documentation that Honda needs to determine how it will “participate” in this adventure.
Jay took Steven into the shop to visit Jacquela’s Civic. The engine is removed from the car, disassembled, smaller upper block at left on the cart, larger lower block at right. Part of the front suspension sits on the floor behind the car, with the tires.Looking up into the vacated engine compartment. You don’t ever expect to see you car look like this.Chris, the service tech, turns over the upper half of the engine block for show and tell.
Jay shows where the timing chain broke.
An intact bolt to the left, and the bolt that sheared at right.
The timing chain, coiled on styrofoam that is stained with oil leaking out of what’s left of the engine.
