Steven today learned how the master shower is waterproofed.
A team from Armored Star Waterproofing parked the truck, uncoiled a hose, donned protective gear, and sprayed a seamless, flexible waterproofing membrane of Polyurea. John applied the first layer to the lightweight concrete base and vertical masonite walls that he installed last week, giving the concrete time enough to cure.

In the time it took for John to explain to Steven that the membrane is flexible and never cracks, the polyurea dried — and John stepped onto the membrane, dropped a supply of lathing staples for the tilesetters to use when laying tile, and sprayed a second layer of polyurea.

It will be ready for water testing tomorrow. The plumbers will seal the drain with an inflatable ball, fill the shower basin with water, and let it sit. If it leaks, it gets fixed. If it doesn’t leak, the inspector will pass it.
